An old trick in VGA games (where the screen was 320 pixels wide), to avoid having to multiply coordinates by 320, was to multiply the Y coordinate by 256 (a power of 2) using a shift operation, then multiply the Y coordinate by 64 (also a power of 2), and then add the results (256Y+64Y = 320Y).
